There was a buzz in the room as business leaders from Stroud-based engineering and manufacturing companies met for the Engineering & Manufacturing Networking Forum. As well as providing a valuable opportunity to meet senior people from fellow local businesses, it’s a chance for company representatives to share their own company’s skills and expertise.
In March 2017 it was the turn of Minchinhampton-based RDS Technology. Engineering Director Peter Nelson (recently retired) treated the group to a fascinating insight into the precision instrumentation that RDS designs and manufactures for the mobile machinery industry. Highly specialist instruments monitor, measure or control in an extensive range of applications from on-board weighing or payload weighing scales – used for example by loaders, excavators and forklifts, to rate control, drill, baler and wrapper controls.
As well as discovering the amazing work of other local companies, the Forum aims to help businesses access the support they need to develop and grow. This time, we heard from IMSM, specialists in ISO 9001 management systems. Local Area Manager Richard Duff explained how IMSM guides companies through the transition to ISO 9001: 2015, examining the business’ key activities in relation to its client’s requirements. In most cases, a successful outcome will be greater efficiency and cost effectiveness, although many implementations enable companies to access new sales and market opportunities.
