This is my third year on the committee although STEMworks have been involved since the start. Festomane has grown to become an established part of the local STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) landscape with an admirable record promoting engineering and manufacturing and engaging the next generation. I’m very pleased to be involved Festomane, especially given that the aims and objectives align with STEMworks.
At STEMworks we aim to engage and enthuse the next generation of STEM professionals, supporting businesses to interact with young people in their community. As part of the Festomane project we have developed and delivered the Festomane Primary Challenge, which this year involved young people designing and constructing K’nex based pneumatic mechanisms. The creativity on display in Gloucestershire schools has been outstanding – the future of our advanced manufacturing and engineering companies look promising if we continue to develop and engage our young people.
This region contains many impressive and world leading engineering companies looking for their future. I’d urge parents, grandparents, teachers, young people and engineers to engage with Festomane and explore the opportunities available on their doorstep.
